Maasai Mara National Reserve is one of the greatest and most popular tourist destinations in Kenya, East Africa and Africa. Located in the Great Rift Valley, The Mara is famously known for wild-beast migration.
It is also considered as one of the finest, yet incredible, diverse and most spectacular wildlife destinations in the World.
Visiting the Mara is a Safari worth planning for; as from here you stand an excellent chance of witnessing the Big Five (lion, leopard, elephant, cape buffalo, and rhinoceros) in-action under one roof.
This morning, you will be picked up from EKA HOTEL at 0700HRS. We head to the Maasai Mara National Reserve through the floor of the Rift Valley. On arrival at Ashnil Mara Camp, check-in and enjoy lunch. Spend the afternoon acclimatizing to the African wilderness and after tea, head for a game drive in search of the ‘Big Five’ that roam the vast plains. This is a collection of mammals once known for their might in being hunted down. Masai Mara is also home to the Mara – Serengeti Ecosystem hosting an annual million strong migration of wildebeest and zebra in search of reener pastures. It is this phenomenon that made this ecosystem the world’s seventh new natural wonder of the world. At sunset, head back to the lodge for dinner and overnight.
Meal Plan: (Lunch & Dinner)
Begin the day with an early morning wake-up call accompanied by quick gulp of hot Kenyan tea or coffee and the rising sun. Very few encounters compare with the sunrise over the Savanna teeming with wildlife. There’s no way of knowing precisely what each day will bring but each day will bring something. The importance of an early start cannot be stressed highly. Nocturnal species still on the prowl or predators gathered at a kill are better seen earlier in the day. Drive back to camp viewing wildlife grazing before the heat of the day forces them to rest under the shade of the acacias or scrub. The rest of the morning is yours to explore – choose to be guided on a nature or bird walk appreciating the wonderful flora and fauna that surrounds the camp. Lunch will be served at the lodge. Spend the afternoon at leisure and after tea: head out for a drive in search of wildlife not yet spotted. At dusk, return to the lodge for dinner and overnight. Option to go on full day game drive with a picnic lunch in anticipation of spotting wildebeest and zebra crossing at river crossing points further away. There’s also an opportunity to visit a local Maasai village or ‘boma’ – an intriguing cultural experience to witness how this nomadic tribe live in harmony with nature and the wilderness (entrance fee payable at the boma) Photo’s
